15th OIC Islamic Summit in Banjul, Gambia on May 4-5

Jeddah, April 25, 2024, The 15th annual Islamic Summit Conference, organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), is scheduled to take place on May 4-5 in Banjul, the capital of The Gambia. The conference theme, "Enhancing Unity and Solidarity through Dialogue for Sustainable Development," will set the stage for discussions on a wide range of pressing issues.

Among the topics to be addressed during the summit are the Palestinian question, youth empowerment, women's rights, family cohesion, combating Islamophobia, addressing climate change challenges, and the status of Muslim minorities in non-member states, among others. These discussions aim to foster unity, cooperation, and collective action among OIC member states.

Prior to the summit, a preparatory meeting is scheduled for April 30 and May 1, where senior OIC officials will review session documents and compile a comprehensive report to be presented at the Council of Foreign Ministers’ preparatory meeting on May 1-2.

During the summit, leaders of OIC member states will engage in discussions covering a spectrum of political, economic, humanitarian, social, and cultural issues affecting the Islamic world. Key agenda items include the Palestinian cause, youth empowerment, women's rights, scientific and technological advancements, information dissemination, addressing Islamophobia and hate speech, food security, legal matters, and the status of Muslim communities outside OIC member states.

The summit will also feature a report by the OIC secretary-general, highlighting the organization's major activities, programs, and projects since the previous summit. This report will provide insights into the OIC's efforts and achievements in advancing the interests and well-being of member states.

At the conclusion of the conference, a final communique will be issued, encapsulating the organization's official positions on the discussed issues. Additionally, resolutions pertaining to Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, as well as the Banjul Declaration, are expected to be adopted, reflecting the collective decisions and commitments of OIC member states towards promoting unity, solidarity, and sustainable development within the Islamic world.
