Al-Assoumi condemns international silence on Israeli actions in Gaza
Cairo, October 26, 2023, Adel bin Abdulrahman Al-Assoumi, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament, expressed strong condemnation for the international community's silence concerning the actions of the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza. He characterized this silence as a disgrace during his address at the 147th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Luanda, the Republic of Angola.
Al-Assoumi emphasized that the international community's inaction in the face of Palestinian suffering and certain countries' unwavering support for these actions can have detrimental consequences for the entire region. He urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly to issue an immediate call for a ceasefire, the lifting of the unjust Gaza Strip blockade, and holding the occupying power accountable for its actions against civilians, treating their perpetrators as war criminals.
Furthermore, Al-Assoumi reiterated that establishing security, peace, and stability in the Middle East is contingent on a just, comprehensive, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue, including the creation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
