Arab Parliament lauds Denmark for criminalizing Quran desecration

Cairo, December 10, 2023, Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Al Asoomi has expressed his appreciation for the Danish parliament's recent approval of a law that criminalizes the desecration of the Quran. Al Asoomi highlighted that this legislative move is a positive step forward in demonstrating respect for religious sentiments and serves as a means to curb the escalating incidents of Quran burnings that pose threats to international security and stability.

In a statement released today, Al Asoomi called on Western nations to follow suit and implement similar laws, emphasizing the significance of adopting such measures across all Western countries. He underscored that such legal provisions are crucial not only for fostering respect for diverse religions but also for deterring the recurrence of these offenses by ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.

The Arab Parliament Speaker emphasized the importance of a united effort in preventing the desecration of religious texts and urged Western countries to recognize the gravity of these crimes, aligning their legal frameworks with the values of respect and coexistence. The adoption of laws criminalizing the desecration of sacred texts, such as the Quran, is seen as a vital tool in safeguarding religious sanctity and promoting a climate of tolerance and understanding on a global scale.
