Etidal and Telegram continue collaboration against terrorist propaganda dissemination

Riyadh, January 21, 2024, The Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) and Telegram have sustained their collaborative efforts to combat the dissemination of extremist propaganda by terrorist organizations. In the last quarter of 2023 alone, they successfully removed 20,092,547 items containing extremist content and banned 801 channels dedicated to broadcasting such materials. This brings the total for 2023 to 43,869,753 items removed and 6,264 extremist channels banned.

Notably, during the same period, the Etidal team observed an increased dissemination of extremist propaganda by three prominent terrorist organizations: ISIS, Hay'at Tahrir AlSham, and AlQaeda. Specifically, 14,064,489 items with extremist content related to ISIS were removed, along with 404 banned extremist channels. For Hay'at Tahrir AlSham, 3,781,568 items were removed, and 207 extremist channels were banned. Additionally, Al-Qaeda's extremist content saw the removal of 2,246,490 items and the banning of 190 extremist channels.

Since their collaboration began in February 2022, and up until December 2023, Etidal and Telegram have collectively removed 58,891,704 items with extremist content and banned 13,088 extremist channels, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to countering extremist activities on digital platforms.
