Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve showcases environmental project at WEF

Riyadh, April 29, 2024, The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority significantly impacted the World Economic Forum's special meeting, held from April 28 to 29, by showcasing its pioneering environmental protection project. This initiative, part of the broader Saudi Green Initiative, underscores Saudi Arabia's commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible stewardship of natural resources.

The project, based in Rafha, is the largest dedicated to environmental monitoring and protection. Leveraging the use of 40 drones, the project has revolutionized efficiency in detecting violations such as unauthorized firewood collection and overgrazing. Rangers can cover an expansive 427 km² area in less than five hours, marking a remarkable 220% improvement from the previous 13-hour timeframe.

In addition to enhancing monitoring capabilities, the project prioritizes sustainability by reducing reliance on traditional fuel-consuming vehicles. The deployment of two drone models showcased at the WEF meeting has contributed to a notable over 66% reduction in carbon emissions, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change.

An integral component of the project is the comprehensive training provided to over 100 environment monitors, totaling more than 8,000 training hours. This training program is fundamental to the reserve's advanced technical system, which integrates cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and data science to optimize environmental protection efforts.

By spotlighting this innovative project at the World Economic Forum meeting, the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Royal Reserve Development Authority has not only demonstrated Saudi Arabia's progress in environmental sustainability but also highlighted the crucial role of technology and collaboration in achieving conservation goals on a global scale.
