KKU ranks 401st in 2023 ARRWU

Abha, August 16, 2023, In a remarkable achievement, King Khalid University (KKU) has soared in global rankings, securing the 401st position in the prestigious 2023 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). This remarkable ascent marks a significant leap of 200 places from the university's standing in the previous year.The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, a renowned institution, has recently unveiled its annual release of the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU). This prestigious ranking evaluates approximately 2,000 universities across the globe, meticulously curating a list of the top 1,000 institutions. The four main factors that affect ranking are the standard of instruction, the caliber of the faculty, the volume of research, and the level of academic achievement per student.

According to the supervisor of the International Classification Unit at KKU, a set of criteria has been established to assess the academic excellence of the institution. These criteria encompass various indicators, such as the presence of esteemed faculty and alumni who have been recipients of prestigious accolades like the Nobel Prize and the Fields Medal. Additionally, the inclusion of highly cited researchers recognized by the renowned Clarivate Analytics company is considered. Furthermore, the number of publications in esteemed journals like Nature and Science, along with the quantity of papers indexed by the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), are also taken into account.
