Riyadh, January 28, 2024, The Saudi Ports Authority, known as "Mawani," has received the prestigious ShipTek "Excellence in Port Infrastructure" award, a highly regarded accolade in the maritime sector in the Middle East and Asia. This recognition, presented at a ceremony in the United Arab Emirates, underscores Mawani's outstanding accomplishments in advancing the infrastructure of Saudi ports.
Mawani has undertaken significant projects, allocating over SAR 640 million for the expansion and construction of new berths at Jeddah Islamic Port. This initiative aims to accommodate large container ships with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEUs, enhancing the port's competitiveness and attracting more international shipping lines.
Additionally, Mawani has laid the foundation stone for the enhancement and upgrading of two container terminals at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with an investment exceeding SAR 7 billion. This strategic initiative aims to strengthen the infrastructure and elevate the competitive standing of ports regionally and internationally. It aligns with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, positioning the Kingdom as a global logistics hub connecting three continents.
These developments highlight Mawani's commitment to port infrastructure enhancements, including berths capable of receiving the new generation of large ships. The integration of modern, automated, and environmentally friendly equipment contributes to operational efficiency, increased capacity, and improved competitiveness.
In 2023, Mawani established nine logistics parks and hubs adhering to international standards, representing an investment exceeding SAR 6 billion. The authority also forged strategic partnerships with global and regional industry leaders in maritime transportation and logistics services. These collaborations strengthen international supply chains, promote economic growth, and contribute to sustainable development.
The "Excellence in Port Infrastructure" award is the second accolade bestowed upon Mawani in 2024. In January, the authority was recognized with the "Best Contribution to Economic Infrastructure Development" award at the International Finance Awards ceremony in Dubai, affirming its excellence in fortifying the infrastructure and capacities of Saudi ports. In 2023, Mawani received seven regional and international awards, including the "Best Port" award for Jeddah Islamic Port, the "Brand Award," and the "Port of the Year" award, among others.
