MWL's 46th session begins under Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh's leadership

Makkah, April 24, 2024, The 46th session of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League (MWL) has commenced under the leadership of Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, who also chairs the Council of Senior Scholars. This session saw the participation of prominent muftis and scholars, representing Muslim communities worldwide as well as minority groups on matters of religious significance.

The agenda for this session includes seven urgent issues, with a focus on topics such as the unity of the Islamic Ummah, the situation in Palestine and the Gaza war, disruptions in Red Sea navigation, developments in Sudan, combating Islamophobia, and addressing defamation of religious symbols.

During his address at the session, the Grand Mufti emphasized Saudi Arabia's pivotal role as the guardian of the Two Holy Mosques and a sanctuary for Muslims worldwide. He highlighted the Kingdom's commitment to supporting Muslim causes, resolving disputes, and providing aid and relief during crises.

Secretary-General of the MWL, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, lauded the Supreme Council's efforts, including recent decisions to update bylaws in alignment with the MWL's international standing.

President of Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, Sheikh Abdulrahman Al-Sudais, stressed the importance of peace and harmony globally, urging unity among Muslims based on the principles of their faith. He also emphasized the need for dialogue among different religions and cultures to promote tolerance and understanding.

The session also received praise from other leaders, including Egypt's Minister of Awqaf Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa Mabrouk and Türkiye's President of Religious Affairs Ali Erbaş, for the MWL's contributions to global peace and its dedication to serving Islam and Muslims.

As the highest authority within the MWL, the Supreme Council plays a crucial role in approving strategic plans and decisions put forth by the General Secretariat. Its members, comprising 65 distinguished Islamic figures, convene periodically to address pertinent issues and make informed decisions for the benefit of Muslim communities worldwide.
