Najran's mud houses showcase distinctive beauty, accentuated by intricate door designs

Najran, April 28, 2024, Najran's mud houses boast a unique allure, particularly highlighted by the exquisite beauty of their doors, serving as gateways to the region's deeply-rooted folk architecture.

The tradition of embellishing wooden doors has become synonymous with Najran's identity. These doors, serving as the initial focal point for any visitor, are meticulously adorned with intricate patterns and designs, showcasing the homeowners' profound pride in their cultural heritage.

Crafted from two or three panels of Sidr or Athel wood, the selection of wood type, intricacy of geometric patterns, and overall size of the doors often reflect the social status of the homeowner. Moreover, the location of each door within the house influences its specific design; yard and main entrance doors exhibit distinct features from those of room doors, yet all share a common thread of captivating aesthetics and durable construction, with some enduring for centuries.

Regrettably, the ancient artistry of door carpentry is gradually diminishing. Historically, skilled artisans dedicated themselves to perfecting their craft, developing unique styles tailored to different regions.

These doors serve as more than mere entrances; they embody silent storytellers, echoing the narratives of Najran's vibrant history and the enduring artistic essence that continues to inspire admiration.
