National Center for Vegetation Development discusses Saudi Green experience at Kubuqi Forum

Riyadh, September 03, 2023, The 9th Kubuqi International Desert Forum was held at the end of August in the Chinese city of Ordos, and it was attended by a delegation from the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification, led by the center's CEO, Dr. Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Abdul Qadir. At a session titled "Scientific Forum on the Comprehensive Restoration of Mountains, Rivers, Forests, Farmlands, Lakes, Pastures, and Deserts," Supervisor General of Studies on "The Saudi Green" Initiative Ahmed Al-Anazi discussed the Kingdom's experience with "Green Saudi to Combat Desertification." In an effort to strengthen collaboration and exchange knowledge in the areas of planting, reforestation, and other initiatives in vegetation cover development, the Saudi delegation met with international officials outside of the conference. The group also went to a number of institutes and centers with a focus on the sector, as well as various prototype projects.

The Saudi study to plant 10 billion trees was discussed during the delegation's meeting with Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), Andrea Meza Murillo.

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP16) and the G20 Global Land Initiative, which aims to stop land degradation, were other topics of discussion between the two parties.
