Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki honored at SportAccord Convention in Birmingham

Birmingham, April 10, 2024, Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee (SOPC) Chairman Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal was honored with a prestigious SportAccord award during a ceremony at the ongoing SportAccord Convention in Birmingham, UK. The event was graced by the presence of International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and Association of National Olympic Committees President Robin E. Mitchell.

The accolade was bestowed upon SOPC in recognition of its successful organization of the UTS World Virtual Youth Festival in 2021, where over 100 international organizations and 30,000 children from various countries participated. Additionally, SOPC was lauded for its hosting of the World Combat Games in Riyadh in 2023, which saw the participation of over 1,500 athletes from more than 120 countries.

Expressing gratitude for the award, Prince Abdulaziz credited the unwavering support of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, emphasizing that without their backing, such grand-scale events would not have been possible in the Kingdom.

During the convention, Prince Abdulaziz also took the opportunity to visit exhibitions featuring the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and the International Camel Racing Federation (ICRF), both of which are actively involved in promoting sports and cultural exchange. SOPC Vice President Prince Fahad bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed and SOPC Secretary General Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Baeshen also toured the pavilions set up by these federations, further highlighting the collaborative spirit in the sports community.
