Jeddah, March 28, 2024, The FIFA Series 2024 in Saudi Arabia has successfully concluded its friendly matches, marking a significant milestone as the Kingdom hosted international FIFA days for the first time. The event featured eight national teams and took place in Jeddah from March 21 to March 26, utilizing two venues: the auxiliary stadiums of King Abdullah Sports City and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City. This announcement was made in a news release by Yasser Al Misehal, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF).
The participating teams were divided into two groups. The first group included Cape Verde (Confederation of African Football), Cambodia (Asian Football Confederation), Equatorial Guinea (Confederation of African Football), and Guyana (Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football). The second group featured Bermuda (Confederation of North, Central America, and Caribbean Association Football), Brunei Darussalam (Asian Football Confederation), Guinea (Confederation of African Football), and Vanuatu (Oceania Football Confederation).
President Yasser Al Misehal praised the event's success and highlighted the role of Saudi talents in demonstrating the Kingdom's capability to host global sports events. He emphasized the collaborative effort between FIFA and the Saudi Federation in developing international football, aligning with FIFA's objectives of nurturing national teams and providing growth opportunities.
Saudi Arabia's recent track record of hosting prominent sports events, such as the FIFA Club World Cup, Spanish and Italian Super Cups, and the West Asian Women's Championship, coupled with its upcoming hosting of the 2027 Asian Cup, showcases its position as a global sports powerhouse. The Kingdom's potential bid for hosting the 2034 World Cup further underlines its dedication to major sporting events and its commitment to advancing the sports landscape on an international scale.
