Saudi Arabia defeats Tajikistan 1-0 in FIFA World Cup qualification match

RIYADH — Saudi Arabia secured a 1-0 victory over Tajikistan in their Group G match of the Preliminary Joint Qualification – Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027. The match, held at Al Awwal Park, witnessed Salem Al Dawsari's impressive first-half goal that sealed the win for Saudi Arabia.

Al Dawsari's goal, coming midway through the first half, showcased his skill as he maneuvered past two defenders and scored from outside the box. This goal proved crucial in maintaining Saudi Arabia's flawless performance in the group, positioning them at the top.

Despite Tajikistan's efforts, including chances from Alisher Dzhalilov and Shahrom Samiev, Saudi Arabia's defense led by goalkeeper Mohammed Al Owais remained resilient. Al Owais made a crucial save, denying Dzhalilov's attempt and preserving Saudi Arabia's lead.

Tajikistan's goalkeeper, Rustam Yatimov, also played a vital role, making key saves to keep the scoreline close. Both teams displayed strong defensive efforts, with players like Manuchekhr Safarov making heroic tackles to prevent further goals.

The win solidifies Saudi Arabia's position at the top of the group, while Tajikistan, despite their strong performance, sits in second place. The upcoming rematch between the two teams in Dushanbe promises to be an exciting continuation of their competitive rivalry.
