Saudi Arabia ranks higher in Lloyd's List One Hundred Ports report

Riyadh, July 26, 2023, In a remarkable achievement, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has climbed the ranks in the prestigious Lloyd's List One Hundred Ports report. According to the recently released 2023 edition, Saudi Arabia has secured the sixteenth spot in annual container throughput. This noteworthy improvement comes after the country held the 24th position in the previous year's rankings. In a recent statement, Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services and Chairman of the Saudi Posts Authority (Mawani), highlighted the significant progress made by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Al-Jasser attributed this remarkable leap to the unwavering support and empowerment provided by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince. This support is aimed at realizing the ambitious goals outlined in Vision 2030, which seeks to position Saudi Arabia as a global logistics leader and a catalyst for socioeconomic growth. As part of this vision, the nation is set to enhance its capacity by up to 40 million TEUs, further solidifying its position in the global logistics landscape. According to the latest industry report, container volumes at ports throughout the Kingdom reached an impressive 10,439,620 TEUs in 2022. This significant figure serves as a clear indication of the Kingdom's increasing importance as a facilitator of global trade and a catalyst for advancement and economic well-being. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has made significant progress in the global logistics industry, thanks to a series of important factors. These include the introduction of nine new cargo services and the signing of agreements worth over 4 billion riyals with major partners. Additionally, the construction of six cutting-edge logistics parks is set to take place in 2022. Furthermore, concessions valued at 17 billion riyals have been awarded to optimize and operate container terminals. Notably, the capacity of Jeddah Islamic Port will be expanded by 70% to accommodate 13 million TEUs, while King Abdulaziz Port will see a remarkable 120% increase in capacity to handle 7.5 million TEUs. Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its remarkable achievements on the global stage, with yet another triumph to add to its list of successes this year. The country's exceptional performance across various influential global indices is a testament to its unwavering commitment to progress and development. In the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index (LPI), Saudi Arabia has made a significant leap, climbing an impressive 17 places to secure the 38th position among 160 nations. This remarkable advancement reflects the country's continuous efforts to enhance its logistics capabilities and streamline its supply chain operations. Furthermore, Saudi Arabia has also excelled in the UNCTAD's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) for the second quarter of 2023. Ranking an impressive 16th among 187 countries, the nation has achieved a commendable score of 76.16 points. This achievement can be attributed to Saudi Arabia's robust maritime network, boasting an impressive 97 maritime links that connect to 348 destinations worldwide. These accomplishments underscore Saudi Arabia's growing prominence as a global player in the logistics and shipping sectors. The country's strategic investments and initiatives have undoubtedly contributed to its rising stature, enabling it to forge strong connections and facilitate seamless trade across the globe.
