Saudi Ministry plants 350K trees, enhancing residential greenery, life quality

Riyadh, March 27, 2024, In line with the objectives of the Saudi Green Initiative, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing has undertaken a significant tree-planting endeavor, with over 350,000 trees already planted in the initial phase of their plan. This initiative, known as the Green Suburbs Project, forms a vital component of the Quality of Life Program, a key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 agenda.

The overarching aim of the Green Suburbs Project is to enhance the greenery in residential areas, thereby elevating the standard of living for inhabitants. With ambitions to plant more than 1.3 million trees across different regions of the Kingdom, the project encompasses the planting of greenery in approximately 55 million square meters of residential spaces, encompassing roughly 100,000 housing units.

Notable progress has already been made, with the Ministry reporting the planting of 186,000 trees in projects such as "Murcia" and "West of the Airport" in Riyadh, along with 94,000 trees in the "Pearl of Diyar" in Yanbu Governorate. Other areas benefitting from this initiative include King Abdullah Housing in Al-Ahsa Governorate, as well as various projects in Dar Al-Jewar, Bouvardia City, and Diyar Al-Hasa.

Through these concerted efforts, the Ministry is steadfast in its commitment to enhancing residential environments, fostering sustainable practices in urban planning, and upholding the highest standards of environmental stewardship. By integrating green building techniques and advocating for the efficient utilization of natural resources, the Green Suburbs Project strives to create a more sustainable future for all.

Positioned as a cornerstone of the Ministry's sustainability agenda, the Green Suburbs Project is poised to facilitate the transition towards a greener, more eco-conscious landscape. Launched just last year, the initiative is slated to unfold across three distinct phases, culminating in 2025. Its overarching objectives include mitigating carbon emissions, curbing pollution in residential zones, and ultimately aligning with the broader aspirations of Saudi Vision 2030, particularly in terms of enhancing the Kingdom's overall quality of life.
