Saudi Ports Authority strengthens maritime connectivity, cements economic hub status

Riyadh, October 30, 2023, The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has revealed its latest move to enhance maritime connectivity and consolidate Saudi Arabia's position as a leading logistics and economic hub. They've introduced the India Gulf Express freight service, operated by CMA CGM, to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam. This direct route links seven key maritime hubs and offers weekly sailings with a fleet of four vessels, each capable of carrying up to 9,800 TEUs.

This addition is set to bolster trade capacity, competitiveness, and connectivity at King Abdulaziz Port and on a broader scale, aligning with Vision 2030's objective of positioning Saudi Arabia as a dominant logistics and economic player. This marks the 25th expansion to Mawani's maritime network this year, contributing to the country's rising score of 77.66 points on the UNCTAD's Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI) during Q3, reflecting an increase from the Q2 score of 76.16 points.
