Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) advances maritime and tourism initiatives

Jeddah, April 05, 2024, Since its inception on November 30, 2021, the Saudi Red Sea Authority (SRSA) has made significant strides in enhancing maritime and tourism activities in the Red Sea region. Aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, SRSA has undertaken a concerted effort to realize its overarching goals and strategic vision through a series of programs and plans.

These accomplishments were detailed in SRSA's annual report for the year 2023, which highlighted the organization's notable works and projects. Among the key achievements was the approval by SRSA's Board of Directors of the coastal tourism strategy, encompassing six goals, 24 performance indicators, and six enablers. This strategy aims to regulate navigational and marine tourism activities within the Kingdom's territorial waters along the Red Sea.

Key responsibilities under SRSA's purview include formulating policies and strategies, issuing licenses and regulatory permits for navigational and marine tourism, determining infrastructure needs, developing marine environment protection mechanisms, attracting investment in maritime activities, supporting stakeholders, and nurturing national talents. Additionally, SRSA plays a pivotal role in enhancing collaboration among government entities, as evidenced by its coordination with 19 public institutions to create the first tourism map for the Red Sea region within the Kingdom's scope.

Environmental conservation is a fundamental aspect of SRSA's operations, with efforts focused on ensuring the sustainability of marine ecosystems. Collaborating with environmental agencies, SRSA has established protocols to safeguard the Red Sea's environment from pollution, preserving its biodiversity for future generations.

Throughout the past year, SRSA has demonstrated proactive and systematic efforts, resulting in the issuance of regulatory regulations and the implementation of various initiatives to enhance coastal areas for tourism. Field visits to key locations such as Jeddah, Jazan, and Al-Lith have facilitated the granting of licenses to tourist marinas and navigation agents, alongside providing technical and advisory support.

The rapid progress achieved by SRSA in 2023 underscores the effective collaboration between public and private sectors, guided by the supportive leadership of the Kingdom and the overarching vision outlined in Saudi Vision 2030. These achievements signify a concerted push towards comprehensive development and the realization of long-term strategic objectives for the Red Sea region.
