Masjid al-Haram hosted a Friday sermon where Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Abdullah bin Hamid urged Muslims to maintain piety toward Allah.
According to SPA, the sermon addressed the human tendency to seek knowledge of the unseen through astrologers, fortune tellers, and horoscopes, which leads to misguidance. The Sheikh cited a Hadith stating that whoever believes a soothsayer or fortune teller has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad.
The sermon distinguished between these practices and true visions, noting that a righteous vision is one of forty-six parts of prophecy. Sheikh bin Hamid explained that the interpretation of visions is a legitimate religious science with specific controls, describing it as a fatwa that should only be performed by those with knowledge.
He categorized visions into three types. The first is the righteous vision from Allah, which serves as a true glad tiding and source of tranquility for the believer. To ensure the truthfulness of visions, he advised practicing honesty, consuming halal, following Allah’s commands, and increasing the remembrance of Allah.
The second type is visions from Satan. The Sheikh instructed that if a person sees something they dislike, they should seek refuge in Allah from Satan and the evil of the vision three times, spit to the left three times, pray, change their sleeping side, and not tell anyone about it.
