Arab League to host "Media and Information Literacy" conference in Cairo

Cairo, April 18, 2024, The Arab League is set to host the "Media and Information Literacy and Global Understanding: Peace for All" conference in Cairo from April 22 to 24. This event, organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in collaboration with the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance, will bring together global experts and representatives from media and cultural organizations.

According to a statement released by the Arab League on Thursday, the conference aims to explore how media and information can be harnessed to bridge societal divides, facilitate dialogue, and promote intercultural understanding. Over the course of three days, attendees will engage in discussions centered on the pivotal role of media culture in shaping public consciousness and guiding public opinion toward issues of peace and harmonious coexistence.

Moreover, the conference will emphasize the crucial role of technology and information in advancing these objectives. It will also spotlight the importance of media literacy in honing critical analysis skills regarding media content and discerning between authentic news and misinformation or "fake news."
