Jakarta, March 14, 2024, According to a local disaster management official quoted by Xinhua, a flash flood in Pekalongan regency, located in Indonesia's Central Java province, claimed the lives of two individuals on Thursday. The victims, identified as a mother and her child, were found near the remains of a collapsed house after being swept away by the floodwaters.
The disaster resulted in significant damage, including the destruction of 20 houses, two places of worship, a school building, and a bridge. While the floodwaters have receded, 61 individuals remain displaced and are currently residing in evacuation centers due to the destruction of their homes.
In response to the emergency, the government has mobilized logistical support and established public kitchens to assist those affected by the disaster. Efforts are ongoing to provide relief and support to the affected communities in the Pekalongan regency.
