Minister of Health joins panel with Al-Rabeeah and Bill Gates at WEF

Riyadh, April 29, 2024, Minister of Health Fahad Al-Jalajel was part of a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum Special Meeting alongside Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah from KSrelief and Bill Gates from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Al-Jalajel emphasized the proactive measures needed to address future health challenges posed by climate change and stressed the importance of coordinated cooperation to mitigate the impact of epidemics and emergencies.

He highlighted the Kingdom's effective sectorial collaboration through the ministerial committee for health, integrating health, justice, and sustainability into decision-making processes. This approach has significantly improved the Kingdom’s health status and highlighted its pivotal role regionally and globally towards achieving a polio-free world.

Al-Jalajel mentioned the progress made towards eradicating polio as a sign of hope for a healthier future, emphasizing the Kingdom's crucial role in this success. He also discussed the need to confront global health challenges, particularly antimicrobial resistance, urging attendees to participate in the upcoming Global High-Level Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance in the Kingdom.

He concluded by stressing the importance of investing in global health for a prosperous and resilient future, mentioning a memorandum of understanding signed between the Saudi Ministry of Health and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. This MOU focuses on cooperation to improve disease monitoring, diagnostic tools, provide safe health solutions, enhance vaccine production capacity, and contribute to global preparedness and pandemic response efforts.
