Dammam is the location of the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra), which has obtained the Mostadam Sustainability Assessment Program Diamond Certification. This standard measures the environmental impact of projects and encourages energy and water efficiency, improved environmental performance, and the reduction of carbon footprints.
According to SPA, Ithra is the first project in Saudi Arabia to receive this certification in the Operations and Existing Buildings (Mostadam O+E) category. The center met all requirements to achieve this status.
A press release from Ithra stated that the certification reflects efforts to adopt eco-friendly practices. These include sustainable transportation solutions, improved waste management, energy and water efficiency in operations, and enhanced user comfort and health. Abdullah Al Buqami, Ithra Technical Services Manager, stated that being the only project in Saudi Arabia to receive certification in this category is a milestone in the center’s sustainability journey. He noted that innovation in environmental practices and design can shape the future.
