Makkah is hosting Bentra Bushima, a participant from the Republic of Burundi, as part of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Competition for the Memorization, Recitation, and Interpretation of the Holy Quran. She is among 334 male and female participants representing 133 countries at the Masjid al-Haram.
According to SPA, Bushima converted to Islam at age 14 after a Muslim friend explained the values and ethics of the religion. Her father, mother, and sister also converted to Islam at that time.
Following her conversion, Bushima memorized the entire Quran within five months before entering a review and stabilization phase. She later won first place in a local competition in Burundi that included approximately 500 participants.
Bushima expressed gratitude to the leadership of Saudi Arabia for organizing the competition and for the attention given to the Quran and its memorizers, which allowed her to participate at the Masjid al-Haram.
