The Film Commission has announced the official rules, eligibility criteria, and nomination mechanism for selecting the film that will officially represent the Kingdom in the Best International Feature Film category for the 99th Academy Awards.
According to SPA, these rules align with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences systems and cover film eligibility requirements, nomination controls, and selection procedures.
An independent nomination committee consisting of cinema sector specialists and experts has been formed to review, evaluate, and vote on eligible applications. Eligibility requirements include that the film must be a feature-length production exceeding 40 minutes, with more than 50% of the dialogue in a language other than English.
The rules further require the film to meet commercial cinema screening requirements within the Kingdom for a specified period, including a paid ticket commercial screening for at least seven consecutive days. The film must not have been available for broadcast or distribution before its qualifying cinema screening.
