SAR40 million is the value of contracts signed for sustainable forest management projects between the National Center for Vegetation Cover Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) and Morooj National Foundation.
According to SPA, Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Eng. Mansour Hilal Al Mushaiti oversaw the signing. The project is the first national initiative of its kind aimed at preserving the environmental, social, and economic value of forests while increasing the role of the non-profit sector in environmental objectives.
The plan utilized Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) to select forest sites and analyze climatic factors, topography, and environmental degradation indicators.
Management of the forests involves six integrated pathways: rehabilitating degraded forests, enhancing forest health, preventing fires and restoring affected areas, strengthening monitoring, engaging stakeholders to promote investment, and developing measures to mitigate risks and challenges.
What is the value and purpose of the contracts signed between NCVC and Morooj? The contracts are valued at SAR40 million and are dedicated to sustainable forest management projects. This first national initiative of its kind aims to preserve the social, economic, and environmental value of forests while strengthening the role of the non-profit sector in achieving national environmental objectives.
How were the forest sites selected and analyzed for the project? The selection process involved using remote sensing (RS) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). These technologies allowed the project to assess spatial, economic, and environmental characteristics, specifically analyzing climatic factors, topography, and indicators of environmental degradation.
What are the six integrated pathways for sustainable forest management in this plan? The plan includes enhancing forest health and rehabilitating degraded forests. It also focuses on preventing forest fires and restoring areas affected by fire, strengthening forest monitoring, promoting investment through stakeholder engagement, and developing measures to mitigate identified risks and challenges.
