Gharameel Nature Reserve in AlUla served as the site for observing the Perseid meteor shower as it reached its annual peak. The astronomical phenomenon, which recurs every August, was documented from Wednesday evening through Thursday dawn.
According to SPA, the observation was supported by dark skies and low light pollution, providing clear visibility for photographing meteors streaking across the sky. The Perseids are known for high activity, occasionally producing bright meteors and fireballs, with the potential to produce 75 to 100 meteors per hour under ideal conditions.
Gharameel is part of AlUla’s certified Dark Sky Parks, featuring a natural environment suited for astronomical observation. Protecting these dark skies helps preserve wildlife and the nighttime environment while reducing light pollution to allow clearer views of celestial bodies.
The event highlighted the governorate’s wide horizons and environmental qualities, which support its position in astrotourism.
